Theresa D. Berger was born with a pencil in one hand and a notepad in the other. She was a born writer. As a very young child, she and her mother read children’s books together, sitting in her mother’s living room armchair. Theresa would critique the books, suggesting story plot changes. At the age of five years old, she took sheets of paper and stapled them together down the left side. She then took a pen and titled her story “Theresa’s I Am Book.” She drew all the illustrations of her character based on herself getting up from bed, going to school, coming home from school, etc. She was very proud of this little book and gave it to her mother as a surprise gift. Her mother saved that book for Theresa’s entire childhood. When Theresa turned twenty-five, her mother gave her back the book. But her reaction was not what her mother had expected. Theresa tore the book in half and threw it in the garbage!
“I’ll never be an author!” Theresa exclaimed as she stormed out of the room. Unbeknownst to her, Theresa’s mother salvaged the torn book from the garbage and taped it back together again. She proceeded to hide it from her for years to come.
In 2011, Theresa published her first real book titled, “Me and My Boy, Skippy” through the book publishing company she had formed earlier that year. She rushed over to her mother’s house to show her the book. Her mother replied, “I have something for you.” She went into her bedroom dresser drawer and returned with “Theresa’s I Am Book” that Theresa had written almost thirty-five years earlier.
“You saved it?” Theresa was astonished and ecstatic. “My dream of becoming a published author has come true,” was her reply to her mother. By Theresa forming Sunsational Publishing, LLC, not only was she able to accomplish her own book publishing goals but the book publishing goals of her aspiring authors.
Currently, she staffs a full-time editor, a typist, several illustrators, and a book designer. However, she will never forget “Theresa’s I Am Book.” It symbolizes her dedication to becoming the author and publisher she is today.

Amy Shook likes things to be a certain way, specifically grammatically correct. No one today knows
precisely how she procured such proclivity regarding the placement of words and punctuation with such proper precision. Still, this prowess is a point in which she takes enormous pride. Occasionally, a bit too much pride, unintentionally ostracizing those who do not believe a dangling participle or a misspelled word could possibly damage their reputation. Fortunately, Amy’s classrooms of elementary and middle school readers and writers have provided a willing audience upon whom she could pass her literary knowledge and expertise.

Today, as an editor (both developmental and copy) and proofreader, Amy employs a strategy that has met with great success both in and out of the classroom – Glows and Grows. She sees herself as an objective and necessary partner in the writing process. With deep respect for everyone who shows the courage to pick up a pencil and commit their inner thoughts to paper, Amy shares Glows – those things an author has done well to convey their meaning and Grows – suggestions on how to make the written piece even more powerful and accessible. While it is near impossible to expect to publish every piece with absolute perfection, the goal is to collaborate to create written work that is as close to perfect as possible. Amy holds a BA in History and an MEd in Educational Leadership.
